Born in Coos County, Karen Sinko lived in Bandon and Coquille for her grade and high school years before attending Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Karen married her husband Joe in 1957 in her home town of Coquille. After graduating from OSU, Karen and Joe moved to Roseburg where they raised their family, three daughters and two sons. In 1973, Karen and Joe relocated to Southern California where Joe pursued a career in Dairy Manufacturing and Karen worked in retail until obtaining her real estate license. Karen was a realtor for nine years in Southern California before they decided to come home to the Oregon Coast in 1989. They bought and operated Bandon Quick Mart for 7 years and later Joe acquired Bandon Cheese Company with a partner in 1992. In 1996, the same year they sold the Quick Mart, Karen was appointed as Executive Director of the Bandon Chamber of Commerce. During her 7 year tenure as Chamber Director, Karen served on many committees and community boards including; city sidewalk/street light committee, the city drug task force, North Bend airport tourism committee and was a key committee member to help plan the 1997 Oregon Tourism Governors Conference in Coos Bay. Karen also served three years as Vice President of the Oregon Coast Visitors Association and oversaw all of Bandon’s annual festivities and festivals that were sponsored by the Bandon Chamber of Commerce. Today, Karen has a combined 14 years of real estate experience. She is still an active member of the community and is involved in several committees and community boards in Bandon.
